Shark jumped over at the Corner:
There is a cult-like atmosphere around Barack Obama, which his campaign has carefully and successfully fabricated, which concerns me. The messiah complex. Fainting audience members at rallies. Special Obama flags and an Obama presidential seal. A graphic with the portrayal of the globe and Obama's name on it, which adorns everything from Obama's plane to his street literature. Young school children singing songs praising Obama. Teenagers wearing camouflage outfits and marching in military order chanting Obama's name and the professions he is going to open to them. An Obama world tour, culminating in a speech in Berlin where Obama proclaims we are all citizens of the world. I dare say, this is ominous stuff.
(Picture from here).
Gosh, next thing you know they'll be asking people who attend his rallies to take loyalty oaths and kick out anyone who might disagree with him by wearing, e.g., a t-shirt that is uncomplimentary.

"Shark jumped over at the Corner"
This presupposes that either Levin or the Corner were formerly a source of wisdom or quality or worthiness, before they jumped the shark.
When was that, exactly?

that's certainly a fair argument gary

This is certainly an entrant in the Best Crazy Obama Post competition they've got going on at America's premiere source for online conservative opinion, but while I admit a temptation to give the prize to Levin on grounds of Godwin, the posts from Andrew McCarthy surely deserve fair consideration (he passed on the Birth Certificate story, sadly without a link to Jesse Taylor's excellent parody, and iirc he may have even credited the new "Obama's Kenyan Grandmother on audiotape" nonsense), and a strong entry from Stanley "The Horror" Kurtz, who alleged that William Ayers wrote Obama's first book.

I can't wait for Kristolnacht.

How unamerican of those teenagers, marching and chanting "I can grow up to be President!" and "I want to be a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher!" They should be out chanting "serf me, daddy!" Or "I want to grow up to be on the dole!"

Also, Obama has a mistress.

Let us revisit the hagiography of Ronald Reagan by the right.
As I sit here and worry whether Obama will be progressive enough, the Pontius Pilate's of the world distort his popularity. Ah, but one more argument for them to question the legitimacy of Obama's election in their mind. They won't have a Supreme Court stolen election to fall back on (didn't they say, "Get over it?"), so they need the fear of Svengali mind control to justify their creation of heavily armed 'Freedom Brigades" to save us (actually real Americans, not us)from the libruls...

Yes, I like the bit about the "Special Obama Flag"
Well, maybe not so special, after all .

Many Jews voted for Hitler* (and allegedly many Floridian Jews voted for a rabid antisemite in 2000), so the fact that a majority of US Jews is pro-Obama should be a clear sign that he is the semi-black reincarnation** of MacSchickelgruber.
(don't ask what your sanity can do for you...)
*There are claims that Hitler was actually a Jew and the Holocaust a pawn sacrifice in order to pave the way for the founding of Israel (he also bought the V2 plans from Aliens in exchange for 6 million human specimens for experimentation)
**or the result of a Boys-from-Brazil operation led by Ayers, Wright and Farrakhan.

In my humble opinion, this is the best of the shark-jumping lot. It's pretty amazing.

Personally I think the Soviet/New Russian anthem tune is far superior to the US one (my personal favorite is Uruguay though. But look out for the Mautitanian one; tune&text ;-))

@ Gary F: 11:14
Good catch: I love Mr. Warshawsky's impeccable logic about how the absence of an "assault" by Obama stickers and buttons on Manhattan's Upper West Side (my neighborhood, btw) is proof positive that an upset McCain victory is just around the corner.
After all:
Guess he hasn't checked out that YouTube video of the McCain/Palin bunch getting flipped off and cursed at by folks at the Broadway Street Fair - which has been such a staple of all those "intolerant fascistic Democrats" posts in the starboard blogosphere of late.
Oh, and thanks, Eric: you can put the broom away now. ;)

Hilzoy, that video made me wonder if he might actually manage to be too scuzzy even for his new employer ... for about one second. Just more evidence that John Cole is right, and we are as yet nowhere near Peak Wingnut.

When so many become so good at shark-jumping, my response is to practice shark-jumping in case I need to be good at it later.
Levin, Beck and the rest of these ugly revolutionaries are in fact dangerous to the United States.
Yes, they are paranoids. But I like nothing better than to give paranoids exactly what they want.
Uniformed Obamas carrying Obama flags and singing tacky Obama anthems should be dispatched the morning after the Inauguration to arrest Levin, Beck, Limbaugh, and the rest.
It suits the reality they desire; it fulfills their paranoid destinies.
It will also save our country, because they seek to destroy it.
At the very least, throw cabbage at them as they run from their studios to their limos.

The conservative pundits keep putting me in mind of Kübler-Ross lately.
1. Denial - Palin was a great pick; she'll pick up all of the Hillary voters, etc.
2. Anger - Ayers is suddenly an issue again; division based on "real" and "anti" Americans; etc.
3. Bargaining - If Obama is elected, you'll be forced to marry someone of the same gender; the government will own your mom; etc.
Two stages to go!

Brian Faughnan over at Redstate, in response to a David Brooks column that predicts the utter defeat of the conservative movement originating with Ronald Reagan, calls for ....
.... "rage".
What will this rage look like? Like a rhetorical great white shark? Like a taped message from Osama Bin Laden, the Right's favorite America-hater? Like Joe the Plumber become Joe the armed psychopath? Like ax-handler Lester Maddox leading crowds of white jackasses to burn down their local Wal Mart?
Frankly, they haven't got the guts for real "rage".
Arrest their asses anyway. They are not Americans.
They call for rage but they want someone else to start it and lead them into it.
C'mon, I'm ready to join a violent mob, they say. Somebody make me do it, they hope.
As John Cole predicts, Sarah Palin will start a new Christian Nationalist Party. It will be as much a threat to me as Osama Bin Laden would have been to me had I started a job on the 88th floor of the World Trade Center on September 10, 2001.

Like Joe the Plumber become Joe the armed psychopath?
I've already seen that movie.
Susan Sarandon might want to lay low for a while.

Like ax-handler Lester Maddox leading crowds of white jackasses to burn down their local Wal Mart?
Having just read Nixonland: they were pick handles.
Posted by: Ugh | October 26, 2008 at 02:11 PM
"Having just read Nixonland: they were pick handles."
Yes, Lester Maddox was very specific about that. It made quite a difference to him.
Wal-Mart didn't exist then, either.

Note that he also repeats the " Special Obama flags" thing, despite the flags having actually been Ohio flags.

Watching with hideous fascination the wingnut hordes alternately lashing out blindly and/or circle firing.
Enjoy.

Good thing for their point that no right wingers treated Bush Jr. like a Zeus-like reincarnation of Ronald Reagan in 2002 when he had 90% approval ratings.
No, no, back then, a million years ago, in the land that time forgot, they only exhibited the most sober, cautious reasoning about how the Unitarded Executrix was more powerful than 2 Constitutions put together.

W/o actually going and checking, I'm going to take a wild guess: Sullivan has given this the Hugh Hewitt Award today?
Posted by: javelina | October 26, 2008 at 11:19 PM
Frankly, they haven't got the guts for real "rage".
They themselves may not but some of their audience do. I am a cynic and believe that Obama is a dead man walking, especially if the GOP fails to filch* it this time.
*I expect this election to be even more rigged than the last ones and we will be happy, if things get sorted out before Bush has to leave office. Otherwise we should ask Israel to nuke Washington (the only state that could do it without provoking WW3)
