McCain's triumph, finally, was that he got over Vietnam. He didn't fulminate against antiwar activists. . . . That healing gift is what McCain, at his best, brings to the presidential race -- not the brass marching band of military valor but the tolerance of someone who has truly suffered.John "Healer" McCain:
I had the courage and the judgment to say I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war. It seems to me that Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign.
What is it Atrios says? Ah yes... Kill me now.
McCain said that 4 times last week. Disgusting.

"At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you cunt."
Let the healing begin!

Seeing every conflict in the world through the filter of "it's-just-like-Vietnam" is pretty much the definition of not getting over Vietnam.

Let's not forget his "I hate the gooks" comment. He's certainly gotten over Vietnam, ayup.

So, when was the last time McCain was "at his best?" I think he left healing gifts and "his best" back on the trail somewhere in 2000.

The obvious question remains:
Is Barry pandering to his to extreme leftist base by saying that even knowing the success of the 'surge' in advance wouldn't have caused him to support it as a United States of America elected Senator?
What in the world was he thinking? Maybe that's the point. His off-the-cuff comments are very often more unintelligible than his septuagenarian opponent.

i believe his point is that the surge hasn't actually fixed the underlying tensions in Iraq; it's produced a ceasefire, not a reconciliation. it has only interrupted the civil war.
and, given that we can't keep it up forever, and that the Iraqis don't want us there forever... what's the point ?

Is Barry pandering to his to extreme leftist base...
I keep hearing about this 'extreme leftist base'....yet there seems to be no 'property is theft' position paper here, nor calls for worker ownership of the means of production and distribution here.
The unilateral nuclear disarmament manifesto belongs here, but I can't find it.
Similarly, the Obama banner ads are missing from here and here.
