Round about now, Hillary Clinton might be wondering: is it possible to run a doomed campaign that just brightens people's day without leaving bitterness in its wake?
Yes.

Much respect to Gravel. I didn't care for him in the debates -- he seemed to be as far off as Kusinich, but that was a fun video.
Good on him!

Most brutal metaphor of the day (about Clinton):

I should gloat after the abuse, but I won’t.
“She was probably the most abrasive, the most offensive, the most disruptive student. She ruined that class. She ruined it. She ruined it. ... I was lecturing on morals and ethics and she just gave me this horrible look, and I was pretty disturbed. I just said what is going on here? The problem with [girl x] is that she can’t take criticism. She can’t take the fact that there is something wrong with her work.”

Current Liberal Arts Professor, picked up by Northwestern University
"Shake off all the fears and servile prejudices under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion.”
-Thomas Jefferson to Peter Carr, 1787.
Hilzoy has a stronger mind than Professor Venkatesan, that guy who runs Red State, and the great majority of the liberal web. Hilzoy reminds me a lot of my paternal uncles and aunts. Strangely, their dad worked trying to help the people of Pakistan. If I lived closer, I’d audit one of her courses and respectfully disagree on occasion.

I don't know about brightening my day. The creepy factor of Gravel, plus the creepy factor of Gravel hitting on someone 1/10th his age (and you thought McCain was old... ;) ) just leaves this in the realm of disturbing to me...

No, John J., that's just plain funny. Would have been different if he had invented Obama Girl.
Even more day brightening is his earlier video in part about him being left out of the debates. Had a conservative like me cheering him on.
Great point, Hilzoy.

Since this is a quasi open thread: Slarti, you seen this yet?

Ack. I no longer have any complaints about any of my swim coaches. At all.
Vomiting is something I tend to avoid at any and all costs. I have no idea what that drill was all about, but it didn't look good.
Cielo is insanely fast. Lundquist is no slouch, but Cielo is just amazing.

From the snippet of the coach at the beginning, it sounded like he was trying to acclimate his swimmers to extensive buildup of lactic acid... though I freely admit I've never heard of this as a strategy.
