It's pledge week at Majikthise. I'd encourage people to help Lindsay stay off of drugs (i.e. pharma reporting) and continue with the journalism. Given the lack of institutional funding available for progressive writers, these efforts are both important and areas where progressive blogs can make a real difference.
I'm going to (perhaps unfairly) treat this as an open thread and poach ObWi bandwidth with a bleg (is it a bleg if a commenter does it?) - anyone have a recommendation for what HDTV I should get?
I'm thinking that 42" is plenty big (though could be persuaded otherwise - not sure the basement can handle it though), and probably looking at 1080i resolution, but can't decide if plasma/DLP/LCD would be best.
I checked CNET but its buying guide is at least 18months old and don't trust it - and Best Buy's site is a complete mess.
Any thoughts? We have to pass the time until Gonzales' 2pm presser.

Ugh: Crutchfield appears to have a fairly informative buyer's guide.
I've seen a number of helpful threads at AskMeFi, too.

M62 - thanks.

Ugh: It is the main topic of Consumer Reports March edition - tons of good geeky info. The website has bits and pieces but I’d pick up the hard copy at the supermarket checkout for the full scoop.

OCS - awesome, something I can read, um, in various locations.

We have a good-sized plasma, which I can highly recommend -- you can drop the kitty an e-mail if you're interested in details, but I unfortunately won't be around again until late in the week. Beware, however, that the famous burn-in problem with plasmas has been improved but not resolved. That said, nothing has thus far come anywhere near a good plasma in terms of brightness and picture quality. (LCDs may get there, but it's still a long way away.)
I also suggest getting the largest TV (of any style) that you think is practical for the space and your boduget; you're already dropping a ton of dough, and there is a noticable increase in viewing pleasure to be had 42 in. and the low 50s.

"boduget" = "budget." (Boduget sounds like some kind of French pastry.)
Also, mark me down as supporting Lindsay's return to big pharma. You know you miss it, Lindsay.

"I'm going to (perhaps unfairly) treat this as an open thread"
There's a current open thread on the right sidebar.

right--bad ugh for thread-jacking.
returning to the topic at hand:
beyerstein is a real resource.
she does good journalism--see her recent Salon interview with the photographer.
and she runs a good blog.
the way we thank people like this is by sending them money.
