In case anyone is desperate for actual good news this weekend, I'm turning the microphone over to Jim Henley (via unfogged):
" It looks very likely that Radley Balko has saved Cory Maye’s life."
Consider this an open thread.

I've been following this on Balko's site for some time now and he has done a wonderful job with this case. Kudos should also go to Balko's employer, Cato, for letting him spend so much time on this. Of course, it is in their purview, but I'm sure they had other stuff he could have been doing.

Good news indeed, though who knows what a second jury will do.

There are times when multiple motives and interests, or some heirarchy thereof, may felicitously coincide. IOW, I hope there is a book in this. With TV rights.
And there are times when I regret that the word "glory" has been somewhat devalued.
Glory to Randy Balko. Rejoice.

One note of potential gloom, the conviction is not being overturned, he is just being resentenced, if I understood the post correctly. I don't want to take the gloss off of anything that Radley Balko did, but I'm wondering what the range of sentences are. If he gets life in Parchman, I think we have a situation here that is parallel to the torture bill, though I don't think there is anyone who I would label the Origami Three. Though I am from the area, so my guilt is a lot worse than anyone else's here.
Some vaguely related thoughts are here at TiO.
