. . . . It's worth noting that I was wrong (about Tenet). He got out-WASPed by the Texan -- personal reasons, indeed.
(Oops, that's two sentences. Damn, now three! Double-damn drat! Five . . . .)

I thought Tenet was Greek Orthodox by religion and Albanian by ethnicity. Now he's a WASP? Or is that just an all-purpose put-down for establishment types?
I'm looking forward to seeing your next ethnic slur.

Unbelievably silly. I'm treating this as an example of (perhaps unintentional) irony.
My comment referred to Tenet's mastery of the WASP dagger -- see the linked piece -- which can be wielded by anyone, of any race, culture, or creed. If that doesn't satisfy, know that I'm among the WASPiest of WASPS (earliest WASP ancestor arrived in Massachusetts in 1640) and therefore claim the sociolistic imperative to make fun of my own culture.
(Throws up hands.)

Well, I don't think their going to claim he had a 'drinking problem' any longer ie: drinking with Chalabi.
He's obviously not the type.
There's a joke in there somewhere but I don't think I found it yet.

their? = They're
Posted by: carsick | June 03, 2004 at 06:52 PM
Yeah Von,
How dare you use a reference that he's not familiar with. Don't give me any excuses that you provided a link or something, that would mean the man's got to do some actual brain work. It's clearly all your fault.

Oh, and BTW, y'all need to feed the hamsters that run your server. They seem tired and slow. I blame Chalabi.

Oh, and BTW, y'all need to feed the hamsters that run your server.
I knew I forgot to do something today: (1) Sign blood contract with Lord Foul (check); (2) Defend Big Asbesto-bacco (check); (3) threaten and marginalize White Anglo-Saxon Protestants via culturally colonialistic blogpost (check); (4) feed cyber-hamsters . . . .

"Sign blood contract with Lord Foul (check)"
I knew you were raving. So which is it? Moksha? Jehannum?
"threaten and marginalize White Anglo-Saxon Protestants"
Right. . because nobody likes being called white, anglo-saxon, or protestant. Them's hatin words.

I'm white and Dutch/German. That is worse right?

And totally wrong...if you're a cake.

Is there such a thing as a non-white Anglo-Saxon?
Posted by: kenB | June 03, 2004 at 07:59 PM
Yes: even Anglo-Saxons go non-white if you leave them out in the sun for long enough.

"Someone left the WASP out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it..."

Stirring clear of the who's WASPier than thou debate, I'm holding out hope that Tenet still has a bit of "sting"* left in him. Falling on his sword the way he did strikes me as odd. The reports coming out suggest he's playing scapegoat or he's doing something much less honorable: leaving the agency to deal with his mess without him.
*Damn! The powerful pull of the pun.

"Falling on his sword the way he did strikes me as odd."
Wouldn't it be really really weird if Tenet and Bush liked and respected each other, and that's all there is to it? You know, that they were just telling the truth and all?
Yeah, just too weird.

The Truth, can Edward handle the Truth?

Your bright-eyed optimisim is heartening Mac.

The "truth" from this Administration would be a breath of fresh air, Timmy.
Posted by: Edward | June 04, 2004 at 10:58 AM
Having the definition of "truth" be something other than "saying what I want to hear" would be a breath of fresh air.
Posted by: Macallan | June 04, 2004 at 11:05 AM
I'd settle for it being simply that they mean what they say, Mac.
Often it's "technically" what they say, but often that's far from what they actually mean and then do. You seem comfortable with that duplicity though, so more power to you.
