I thought that it'd be nice for the Oscar people to see precisely how the geekvote is liable to see their current slate. Well, at least how one member of the geekvote is liable to see their current slate. You know the drill.
(And, yes, I heard that Cold Mountain was actually pretty good, but I didn't see it. Sue me.)

Keisha Castle-Hughes in Whale Rider (The boyfriend of my housemate insisted that we watch this film; I wanted to see the Italian Job and I was half-blitzed anyway, so rather than be in a snit I went upstairs for a while, came back down and actually watched it. At the end I told him, "Dude, next time explain ahead of time that the girl actually was a telepath, 'kay?" He threatened to throw something at me.)

LORD OF THE RINGS! GIVE IT TO THEM! GIVE THEM THE OSCAR!... umm, actually maybe Pirates of the Caribbean should get this one instead

OK, so far the only category that has any sort of conflict for me is makeup. That's kind of depressing, really.

I hope that this little excursion into my brain will help you in your Oscar watching experience: I plan to read about it the next day like a good little blogger, myself. I mean, somebody will be blogging about it in real time and I can't do permalinks to the TV, so what's the point? And remember:
LORD OF THE RINGS! GIVE IT TO THEM! GIVE THEM THE OSCAR!
Moe! You're a geek? I would have felt more affectionate towards you earlier had I known. :-)
(And, yes, I heard that Cold Mountain was actually pretty good, but I didn't see it. Sue me.)
As soon as I saw it described as "Gone With The English Patient," I was willing to wait for the DVD. I'm sure it's wonderful, but I'm still pissed off that I was supposed to be in favor of KSThomas cheating on Colin Firth. No. Just, no.
Seabiscuit was good, in a nostalgic, you-know-what's-going-to-happen-but-it's-still-really-neat sort of way.
However,
LORD OF THE RINGS! GIVE IT TO THEM! GIVE THEM THE OSCAR!
I agree completely.

If what you got out of The English Patient was that you were supposed to be in favor of Katherine cheating on Geoffrey, you weren't paying very close attention.
