So now it seems pretty clear that we will have a Hillary Clinton versus Donald Trump Presidential election in the United States this November. I suppose there could be an extremely messy fight at the GOP convention this summer that eventually wrests the nomination from Trump, but given that he is either going to win outright (still very much in the air) or be so close that any person the GOP might nominate is going to look like a subversion of Democracy that would be (ISTM) too much even for the GOP base (not that I wouldn't enjoy watching a GOP convention implosion), I think I'm safe in saying we will have those two battling it out.
I can't imagine what this is going to look like. Probably some combination of ugly, fascinating, horrifying, interesting and depressing. Feel free to add your own description! Can we call this the most important election in the past 30 years? Dunno. Seems like it, or is it just because the prospect Trump Presidency so unbelievable that it's too terrible to contemplate? I guess President John McCain and Veep Sarah Palin (really John?) would have been pretty bad. 2000 in retrospect seems much more important than it seemed at the time.
Anyway, prepare yourself for 4+ months of this leading into November. The one-on-one debates alone could be astonishing.
This will truly be the high-water mark of American Democracy. God Bless us, every one!
