Eric, this is a hugely important development (that's been building for a while; the legislators' letter to Rep. Delahunt's committee was one step). Just as it accidentally got buried by the NATO post, it may be buried in general under the flurry of non-Iraq news and politics.

This is the same grouping as what Reider Visser calls the 'July 22 group' (the date of the election law vote in parliament), yes?

I'm not holding my breath for the U.S. government, even under an Obama administration, to foster nationalists over clients (even when the client loyalties are at best divided). Ditching the bases isn't regarded as Serious. We and the Iraqi people have to make it so, and it's going to be a long road.
