I also trust everyone is fully aware of the pure awesomeness that was the UK-LSU game. I'm tempted to get a virtual Blue-White cheer going. Farley maybe? -- you're an adopted Kentuckian (not the real thing like me, but close enough, assuming you can now pronounce Louisville with two syllables).
as an alumni of UK but a life long LSU fan (new orleans native), i had mixed feelings, though it was an outstanding game that showed once again why no SEC is going to go through an entire season undefeated for years - or even decades - to come.
oh, i do wish that college would change their overtime. have some variation on the NFL. it's sudden death except for the opening drive - if a team wins on opening drive, the opponent gets one drive. the college system is too screwy with its "must go for 2 on the third drive oddities.

I was rooting for Kentucky and enjoyed the almost endless game, but am looking forward to the Tennessee Vols kick their ass come November. Wildcat basketball fans are insufferable enough; "Avenue of Champions" anyone?
God forbid Kentucky wins the SEC in football; having Florida win national championships in football and basketball has been almost too much to bear. At least we've got womens' basketball.

two syllables? just lew-ville?
c'mon--it's at least two and a half: lew (wuh) ville.
check when you say it--i bet you've got some minimal lip-rounding at the end of the 'oo' sound.

absolutely bernard - bright orange ties? rockytop played 8 million times in 20 minutes? (great song, but vols have tainted it).
kid - i can perhaps concede 2 1/2 maximum, but you can squeeze it into 2. lull-vul

UK Law '76. It was a fleeting moment of joy. I understand the new basketball coach is an SOB and not one to cheer for.

Nothing beats the insufferable USC band for playing the same three bars of music over and over and over and over ....

My wife, born and raised in Louisville and a UK grad, pronounces it Loo-ee-ville; most of the folks I've met when we vacation there say something like Loo-a-vul. I've not heard a two-syllable variant...
Posted by: Steve | October 17, 2007 at 01:00 PM
Oh, it's Loo-vull. I'm from the south side of St. Louis, though, we have a funky-ass accent.

There is no doubt that rocky top played everytime the vols gain more than 3 yards a play is the most annoying song ever. And I'm not just saying that b/c they humiliated the dawgs again this year.

OT: Apparently we're now going to be waging a War on Knowledge.

KC,
If so, our President is going in unarmed. :-)

to the contrary, he's perfectly suited for a War on Knowledge: everthing he doesn't understand must be destroyed.

Is that anything like pronouncing Louisiana with four syllables.

I can pronounce "Louisville" with two syllables, with no problem, but the rest of the thread is incomprehensible to me.

I tried to derail it unto comprehensibility, Gary (assuming anything related to Bush is ever truly comprehensible).
