Off topic: I hope things start looking up for you.

Muc obliged for the sentiment, but actually things are going pretty good right now. :)

Moe,

If you go to some of the really authentic Cchinese restaurants in New York's Chinatown, Jellyfish is on the menu. Never tried it. In Portuguese the name is agua viva (literally "living water").

Randy: Jellyfish is prized in Chinese cuisine for its slightly gelatinous crunch (or crunchy gelatin, depending on how it's prepared), much like sea cucumber and chicken's feet. It's a texture thing; AFAIK, it's the only major cuisine in which texture plays such a central role, thus somewhat explaining shark's fin, bird's nest, abalone, jellyfish, &c

Moe: I have to say, I'm not particularly surprised at the article. I read an article on the plane on conotoxins and the man who obtains them by -- wait for it -- "milking" the cone snails. I was familiar with the concept before (I used to absolutely love shell collecting when I was a kid, and cone shells were some of my favorite) but I hadn't realized that people actually did that with live ones...

I have eaten jellyfish at dim sum several times. I don't like it. I DO like chicken's feet, sea cucumber, ducks feet, duck tongues and the like, so it isn't squeamishness. Just not a lot of nice tastes for my particular palate.

ps - Moe, or anyone technical, the OBWi comment thing is refusing my blog address. When I try to post a comment, I get this message:

Moe-

I'm thinking that it's the

threat

of the "jellyfish cure" that does the trick. At least, I'm pretty sure it would work if it involved actual application of the jellyfish. It would for me.*

*Err..insert obligatory "If I had any problems like that" qualifier.

Dunno about injecting toxins, but I love that name "irukandj".

I love eating gooey ducks. My mother loves to make it with rice, tastes great! Though I do think you have to get used to the texture.

Check out geoduck for info.
